This theme, through the grace of God, is what changes our stony hearts and attracts us to Him.
It is the fulfillment of His words:

When we reflect on Christ's life and all that He went through for you and I, we can only repeat the exclamation of John:
We have known and believed the love that God has to us.
The Son of Man was lifted up on the cross, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
This act of love, which humans are not able to understand and describe fully, is what draws us to Himself.
Thus if we don't resist, God's goodness leads us to repent of the sins causing His death on the cross.
Then the Spirit of God through faith gives rise to our new life, partaking of the Divine nature and showing in good work the fruits of Christ's character.
