New to Grafted To Grow and not sure were to begin?
By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap: He layeth up the depth in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
How were the heavens made?
In what two ways is the idea expressed?
Why is the earth to fear the Lord?
How was his great power manifested?
He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33:9.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
How were the worlds framed?
How do we know this?
Out of what were the things made which are now seen?
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
How were the heavens of old?
Is there any need for ignorance concerning this fact?
How are the present heavens and earth kept in store?
Who, being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the Word of His power;
when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
To whom is reference made in this verse?
How is His Word designated?
What is accomplished by His Word?
A correct understanding of the power of God's Word in Creation leads to appreciating His Word's power in Redemption.
He simply spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33:9.
The breath of God's mouth is a breath of life.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7.
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. Job 33:41.
It has the same creative power as His Word.
By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. Job 37:10.
He sendeth forth His commandment upon earth: His Word runneth very swiftly. Psalm 147:15.
Therefore, His Word, which is life: The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life, John 6:63, is God-breathed:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God. 2 Timothy 3:16.
In the record of creation - Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24 - we read that at each step in the work God said let it be so and it was so.
Thus the true God is distinguished by this creative power and the call to worship Him is based upon the same reason.
Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come:
and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Revelation 14:7.
We can only know the things which God has revealed by believing them.
The secret things belong unto the Lord our God:
but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever. Deuteronomy 29:29.
Thus our knowledge of these things is the result of our faith and not our faith the result of our knowledge.
Therefore, it is only through faith that we can know anything about the work of creation.
The fact of creation, however, is constantly before us, and the things that are made bear testimony daily to His eternal power and Godhead. Romans 1:20.
Thus God's glory is manifested to us:
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork. Psalm 19:1.
Moreover, we are encouraged to trust Him for our needs:
But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.
We all have this great need - we are fallen and mortal.
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Romans 7:24.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. Romans 3:23-25.
Furthermore, we are to remember that the riches of His glory and the riches of His grace are the same.
He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. Ephesians 3:16.
In Whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7.
For by Him (Christ) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:
all things were created by Him, and for Him:
And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. Colossians 1:16, 17.
All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made. John 1:3.
Moreover, the same Word that created is the power which now preserves.
Thou, even Thou, art Lord alone; Thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein,
the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth Thee. Nehemiah 9:6.
The unwearied Worker (John 5:17) still directs and cares for all He created (Isaiah 40:20-28), (Matthew 10:20-31).
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish,
but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; 2 Corinthians 5:19.
God redeemed us with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you. 1 Peter 1:19, 20.
Therefore, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29.
His hand is stretched out still. Why wait longer?
