New to Grafted To Grow and not sure were to begin?
Christ came to present to our fallen world the remedy for sin. Thus whosoever would believe in Him as their personal Savior would not perish.
Moreover, by becoming one with Him and the Father would have an everlasting life.
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey His voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto Him:
for He is thy life, and the length of thy days; Deuteronomy 30:20.
Jesus became the Son of men that He might bring us back from apostasy to loyalty to God, binding our hearts together and to the heart of Infinite Love.
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9.
Faith in God's provision
This is the Gospel's glorious message of peace and good will to men.
Moreover, this is the blessing that Christ brought to our broken world under the curse of sin.
Therefore, believe now that God loves you. For He hath declared it and gave plenty of evidence that He loves you as He loves His Only-begotten Son.
Accept His unfailing remedy provided in the Savior.
He is righteousness, sanctification, and redemption to those who believe in Him, and who follow in His steps.
Then one could say - The Lord is my righteousness.
For the atoning sacrifice seen through faith brings peace, comfort and hope to the trembling soul weighed down beneath the sense of guilt.
In their wilderness journey, God brought Hebrews into a straight place to prove whether they would trust Him.
After so much evidence of His care they were still speaking against Him and Moses.
Though the Heaven-sent fresh manna lay upon the ground every morning, they were accusing God and their human leader of killing them with hunger.
And the people spoke against God, and against Moses,
Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? Numbers 21:5.
In their ingratitude and unbelief, they had anticipated death.
Therefore, God withdrew His protecting hand, and permitted death from venomous serpents to come upon them.
In every murmuring family were dead and dying. Confusion and terror reigned in their tents.
All felt that they must soon perish.
Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee;
pray unto the Lord, that He take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole:
and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. Numbers 21:7, 8.
Here Hebrews were required to do something for themselves. They must look upon the brazen serpent, if they would live.
Though many had already died, some would not believe that merely looking upon that metallic image would heal them - they perished.
Besides, many had faith in the provision which God had made - they were healed.
The serpent of brass had no power to cause a change in those who looked upon it. The healing virtue was derived from God.
He chose this manner to display His power. It was the faith of the people in the provision made, which was acceptable to God.
By this simple means they were:
Made sensible that He had permitted these serpents to afflict them, because of their murmurings and lack of faith in Him
Assured that while obeying God they had no reason to fear - He would preserve them from the dangers to which they were continually exposed.
In their affliction, Hebrews could not save themselves from the deadly venom of the serpents.
God alone could heal sinful and rebellious people.
In addition, He did not pardon their transgression without testing their repentance and faith. They must look, in order to live.
Furthermore, it was an object lesson for them. God showed them that their:
Sacrifices, in themselves, had no more power nor virtue than the serpent of brass
Offerings and sacrifices were to be brought with subdued wills and penitent hearts, having faith in the atoning sacrifice of God's dear Son.
None were compelled to look upon the brazen serpent. All could look and live, or distrust the provision God had made - refuse to look and die.
The people of God may not always see the reason for His requirements. Moreover, may not be able to understand His dealings with them.
Even so, it is not their part to question and doubt His purposes. As lifelong recipients of His favor, they should yield Him ready and willing obedience.
All His commands are founded in infinite love and wisdom. Though we may not fully understand His purpose here, yet we shall know hereafter.
As the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness, so the Son of God was lifted up on the cross, that sinners from the ends of the earth might look and live.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:14-16.
A great number of people are still suffering from the deadly sting of that old serpent, the devil.
The effects of sin can be removed only by the provision which God has made.
The sting of the serpent was a certain death, unless the sufferers would avail themselves of the remedy provided.
Even so, sin is deadly in its effects, unless humans look to Christ and believe in the merits of His blood.
The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7.
The remedy was perfect, when according to God's direction they looked upon the uplifted serpent. That look implied faith.
They lived, because they believed the Word of God, and availed themselves of the provisions made.
So, in the plan of salvation - Christ has power and virtue in Himself to heal the suffering and repenting sinner.
Our salvation rests upon the atonement made by our Saviour and the truthfulness of God's Word.
We must believe that Jesus died to redeem sinners like ourselves, and that God means what He says - Him that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out. John 6:37.
Look to the uplifted Saviour and believe He saves you from your sins - no matter how bad you think they are.
All the remedies and medicines of the world would fail to cure one soul who had been bitten by the venomous serpent - the devil.
Nevertheless, God had provided the Remedy that cannot fail.
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (healed and restored). Acts 16:31.
You can answer the enemy by proclaiming the promise that you believe in the Son, and therefore will not perish.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 1 John 5:11, 12.
Therefore, turn your eyes to the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world.
Christ was wounded for my transgressions. He was bruised for my iniquities.
The chastisement of my peace was upon Him, and with His stripes I am healed. Isaiah 53:5.
Be not among the number to whom Jesus said: Ye will not come unto me that ye might have life. John 5:40.
Take the word of Jesus as more sure and valuable than any word that can come from humans.
Thank God with your whole heart, soul and voice that you are barricaded with the promises of His infallible Word.
God will give you the Holy Spirit, even though it may seem to you that it is too good to be true.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:31, 32.
They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:31, 32.
Divine power is to operate in the re-creation of humans.
It is made plain that fallen humans should believe the Word of God, and obey to the letter of His commandments.
Here we may:
Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world
Find encouragement to lift up our voice in hope and expectation - Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me
Find what is the effectual remedy for the leprosy of sin - The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin
See the ransom that has been provided and hear the gracious invitation -
In whom we have redemption through His blood; Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Look upon the mercy of God toward those who are rebels and enemies - God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Therefore If we say that we have no sin (no need of the Savior), we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us, and make God a liar. 1 John 1:8, 10
For God hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
As a remedy for the terrible consequences into which selfishness led the human race, God gave His only begotten Son to die for humankind.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15.
Will you accept the pardoning love of God, which is the remedy for diseases of the soul?
Furthermore, it is necessary to believe the Word of God in order sin to be cleansed from the soul,.
